Is money the biggest motivator for basket ball players?

Monday, March 10th, 2008

The following forms a dilemma whether money motivates or not. The discussion can lead to certain results and findings. In a country people are poor, money is the biggest motivator. But for basket ball players in the world class category, money may not be the biggest motivation. They start moving towards a higher level of needs like the intrinsic ones. Those moving ahead, recognition becomes more important than money. They may start developing their own college basketball picks, March madness picks and college basketball predictions in order to get more recognition. March madness predictions can even help. Those they will lead would bring them more success and distinction. Though money comes in this as well, they may be offering free coaching or picks but an element of recognition is always there. For example, being the highest paid player, you still want some more recognition. In case their predictions come true, that is an added feature to their fame.

So it’s not always money which motivates you; but other factors are also vital. Money comes under the extrinsic factors whereas fame and high recognition comes under the intrinsic ones.

History has examples of coaches who were paid well enough to coach, but died when the team was unable to perform well. Weren’t they paid enough? Money wasn’t the problem but a successful team bearing fruitful results was more significant for them.
